PhD in Computational Science or related field with a strong emphasis in modern scientific code development.
Minimum 10 years of experience in computer science, simulation, numerical methods, computer architecture, hardware, and software.
Minimum 10 years of experience in scientific industrial code development with good knowledge of agile methods.
A strong experience in R&D project management involving academic partners. A demonstrated technical track record with a strong peer recognition and credibility.
A broad working knowledge of the digital domain.
Excellent communication skills with ability to influence.
Proven leadership experience of R&D staff with the ability to develop staff.
Fluency in English. French highly valued for the position.
Willingness to expatriate to Europe for another position for 3-5 years.
Activités
Join us as the Head of Numerical & Computational Science to shape our R&D initiatives, drive computational advancements, and foster collaboration across various domains. In this role, you will be a key member of our Management Team, actively contributing to the coordination and development of our R&D vision.
Key responsibilities include:
Technical leadership and supervision of the Department ‘s scientific activities.
Technology transfer toward end users of all products issued by your team.
Manage internal and external relationships for CSE, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence-related research topics.
Actively seek new research and innovation partnerships among academic institutions in line with the One R&D programs roadmaps.
Ensure that teams are conducting top-tier quality research and leading-edge value-adding research activities.
Provide expertise and support to internal peers or users of the machines and equipment under responsibility.
Ensure proper HSE practices.
Define & manage the budget, human resources, strategy, and communication of the Department in the US.
Coach and ensure career and skill developments of the staff, as well as actively seek new talents.
In this role you will:
Deport directly to the TotalEnergies Research & Technology CEO and President.
Represent the company in discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Be accountable for the operation of the Houston HPC Center consisting of a two HPC machines (1 petaflop power) and ancillaries used by about 100 users in the US and Europe.
Have 10 to 20 highly qualified staff with indirect supervision of PhDs and postdocs reporting to you.
Manage a department that contributes to themes of the One R&D Program, collaborating with 30+ third parties annually.
Regularly collaborate and interact with third parties to achieve success.
Maintain a strong working knowledge in a large range of digital domains to steer the right decisions and options. The domains covered are hardware design; software programming; large grid CCUS modeling, wind, solar, reservoir modelling, seismic imaging.

The Department Numerical Platform in the One R&D environment is a transverse platform working with internal stakeholders across the whole company.
The department is the USA hub for a multimillion a year R&D Program that conducts cutting-edge research activity that is of strategic importance to TotalEnergies on its path to a digital transformation.
The work is placed in a context of a fast-moving and highly competitive environment in strategic area for the company.
You will be in a pivotal role of a full matrix organization spanning many disciplines and stakeholders to whom, as a provider you are accountable for the delivery of products outlined in a broader level roadmap.
